Embroidered Landscape

ONLINE WORKSHOP – VIA ZOOM

Cost: $1,700  MEXICAN PESOS  (approximately  USD $97, depending on the exchange rate on the day of payment).

Two live sessions – 6 hours total

This workshop will guide you through the process of interpreting a natural landscape through hand embroidery, from observation and planning to textile creation. You’ll learn how to analyze a reference image, identify its essential elements—composition, color, and texture—and translate them into embroidery through sketching and practical exercises.

SESSION 1: Saturday, AUGUST 15 

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (GMT-6, Mexico City time)

The first session is two hours long. During this class, I’ll share my creative process for embroidering landscapes. We’ll talk about the importance of observing the natural world and how to identify the essential elements of an image through key concepts such as composition, color, visual structure, and texture.

We’ll explore different ways of translating a reference image into embroidery while looking at the work of various textile artists who interpret landscapes in their practice. We’ll finish by reviewing the materials list, along with examples of embroidered pieces to inspire you and help you decide what to gather. After this session, you’ll have one week to collect your materials and prepare to begin stitching.

SESSION 2: Saturday, AUGUST 29 

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM (GMT-6, Mexico City time)

The second session is four hours long and is entirely hands-on. We’ll be creating a stitch sampler that will serve as the technical foundation for your project.

We’ll sketch our landscape, identifying the main textures within the composition. From there, we’ll begin translating those elements into embroidery using basic stitches, raised stitches, and filling stitches to create embroidered textures inspired by the natural world.

This exercise will allow us to explore different ways of representing a landscape both visually and through texture. We’ll bring together everything covered in the first session and begin applying the stitches to our final project: an embroidered interpretation of a natural landscape.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have both the creative and technical tools to continue exploring embroidery as a pictorial and expressive medium.

The workshop also includes a digital guide featuring resources, books, and artists who inspire my approach to landscape and embroidery.

 

• The sessions will be recorded, and you’ll have access to the recordings for 3 months.
